Dima Wannous studied French literature at Damascus University and at the Sorbonne in Paris. She has written for a number of Arabic and foreign newspapers, including The Washington Post. She currently lives in London. She is one of the most prominent contemporary writers from the Middle East. In 2008, she published her debut novel The Chair. Her most recent book The Frightened Ones (Al Khaifoun) has been translated into Dutch, English and German. This novel, which flawlessly depicts the impact of a dictatorship on young people’s daily lives, made the shortlist for the International Prize for Arabic
Fiction 2018.
