Seven Syrian Composers

  • Bozar

    concert

The world-famous composer and clarinettist Kinan Azmeh (see concert 22.02) put together this programme especially for Moussem Cities, featuring work by seven contemporary Syrian composers. Performed by the ORCW and the Syrian soloists Dima Orsho (soprano), Maias Alyamani (violin) and Firas Hassan (percussion).
Kinan Azmeh has selected work by composers and artists from different generations and with a diverse musical vocabulary: two works by the pioneers Solhi al-Wadi and Dia Succari, contemporary compositions by Zaid Jabri and Kareem Roustom, and finally the compositions by three performers/composers Dima Orsho, Kinan Azmeh and Maias Alyamani, pieces that leave room for improvisation, a common practice in Syrian traditional music.

programme Zaid Jabri: Muzyka Kameralna | Dia Succari: Baal and Anat | Solhi al-Wadi: Love Poem | Kareem Roustom: Dabkeh | Dima Orsho: I. Hidwa, II. Those forgotten | Maias Alyamani: I. One way ticket to Damascus & Warda | Kinan Azmeh: Suite for improvisor and orchestra: I. Wedding, II. November 22nd.
